See Non-Destructive Multi-Package Single Pass Inspection System For Pouches, Stick Packs & Sachets at Pack Expo
Tuckahoe, NY (September 25, 2009) - PTI Inspection Systems will showcase the VeriPac 325/D drawer-style inspection system for pouches and flexible packaging at the Pack Expo Show in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Booth C-2207.
"Recognizing the increasing demand for a non-destructive package integrity testing solution for flexible packaging, we developed the VeriPac D-Series inspection system", stated Heinz Wolf, general manager.
"The unique difference with this test configuration is how the package is tested. The tester features a convenient drawer-style test chamber for easy handling and testing convenience. PTI utilizes its patented FLEX chamber that conforms to the package shape and size. Multiple packages can be tested in a single test cycle. The flexible membrane will reduce test chamber head space for maximum test sensitivity detecting down to 10 micron hole size in pouches up to 30” x 30. The VeriPac D-Series testers are also capable of testing different size pouches, stick packs and sachets without any changeover in parts or settings."
The VeriPac D-Series utilizes an ASTM approved non-destructive vacuum decay leak test method (F2338) recognized by the FDA as a consensus standard for package integrity testing. This test method was developed using VeriPac leak test instruments.
Wolf added, "VeriPac D-Series are a practical alternative to destructive testing because it eliminates the subjective results, the waste and cost associated with these methods. Case studies prove that the vacuum decay leak testing technology provides a very rapid return on investment when compared to destructive test methods, such as the water bath test. In just one example of a multilane pouch and stick packaging plant, first year results indicate a 90% reduction in operator man-hours required to inspect product. Since no product is lost because good packages are not discarded, product savings have been significant at both the plant and retail levels. VeriPac D-Series testers have also resolved the issue of finding critical defects that affect product quality and shelf life as soon as possible in the production line. Since VeriPac test cycles are very short and testing is non-destructive, both the number of samples and testing frequency can be increased."
Recent installations of VeriPac D-Series Inspection Systems include the following applications for pouches and single serving stick packs:
• Baby formula powder
• Coffee
• Flavored milk powders
• Snack foods (popcorn, chips)
• Nuts
PTI offers two configurations of VeriPac D-Series testers depending upon package specifications and required test sensitivity. The VeriPac 225/D is suitable for leak testing >25 microns; the VeriPac 325/D achieves test sensitivity >10 microns. There are also two test chamber drawer sizes depending upon the package size and the quantity of samples the customer wants to test at one time. VeriPac provides a qualitative result (PASS or FAIL) as well as quantitative data that correlates to leak rate and leak size. A comprehensive IQ, OQ, PQ validation qualification package in compliance with FDA regulations is also available.
