Introducing New Non-destructive Seal & Leak Detection System for Blister Packaging

Tuckahoe, New York (January 17, 2012) - PTI Inspection Systems has launched the latest addition to the VeriPac Series, the new VeriPac 410 inspection system that offers non-destructive seal integrity testing and leak detection for blister packs, sachets, and low head space packaging.

VeriPac 410Multi-cavity blister packs and low head space packaging use a variety of test methods to determine package integrity, with most being destructive, subjective, and unreliable, said Oliver Stauffer, vice president of inspection technologies at PTI. "The VeriPac 410 utilizes a combination of vacuum decay technology and differential force measurement to identify defective packages. Multiple packages can be tested in a single test cycle, and the 410 identifies which package is defective. With multi-cavity blister packs, the location of the defective cavity is also identified. Test results are quantitative and provide operators with a definitive pass/fail, eliminating the subjective and destructive nature of other test methods. Another key advantage is the unique system design that enables fast changeover from one blister format to another, which is a common application for blister package manufacturers and contract packers."

Blister packagingThe core technology of the VeriPac 410 is based on the ASTM approved vacuum decay leak test method F2338 that was developed using PTI's VeriPac instruments. Stauffer adds, "This is a robust system, specially designed to overcome many of the challenges associated with testing blister packaging that haven’t been solved with inspection methods used to-date. The VeriPac 410 allows tested product to be returned to the production line and eliminates the significant costs and waste associated with destructive leak test methods. The VeriPac 410 is an excellent process control tool for the pharmaceutical industry and the rapidly growing nutraceutical market."
