VeriPac 425/LP
Overview
The VeriPac 425/LP is an automatic online inspection system for dry-filled pre-made and FFS pouches, stick packs, sachets and flexible packaging.
PTI’s VeriPac vacuum decay leak testing technology has a proven capability of non-destructive package testing and reliable leak detection as small as 10 microns, identifying process issues before they become critical. The new VeriPac 425/LP brings this proven technology to an automated level to further reduce waste and improve testing capabilities.
Using a conveyor infeed, the pouches are automatically fed into the test chamber. After the test cycle is completed, defective packages are automatically rejected and good packages are placed back into the production line. VeriPac provides a qualitative result (PASS or FAIL) as well as quantitative data that correlates to leak rate and leak size. Good packages are not discarded, dramatically reducing waste from quality testing. Significant product savings can be created at the plant and retail levels.
Benefits
- Automated online pouch inspection
- Non-destructive, non-invasive, no sample preparation
- Test multiple packages in a single test cycle
- Cost effective with rapid return on investment
- More reliable than water bath or gas measurement tests
- Supports sustainable packaging & zero waste initiatives
- ASTM test method and FDA standard
Most powders, especially dairy products, have high cost per weight and rapidly attract both moisture and Oxygen, quickly reducing shelf life. With expanding markets for protein based products in flexible packaging, increased package testing standards will improve shelf-life and ensure the security of large scale operations. Products using Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) have the highest risk related to deficiencies in package quality control. Most MAP applications use Nitrogen flushing, and testing package quality involves sampling package gas content days after the product has been packaged. The protein based content of many products will allow bacteria to consume the majority of the O2 content before the increase in O2 is detected by gas testing equipment. Leaks as small as 10 microns dramatically decrease the typical 12 to 24 month shelf life of protein based products, but will go undetected using traditional water bath and gas measurement tests. VeriPac 425/LP vacuum decay leak testing technology is a practical solution that is reliable, repeatable and offers automated online inspection.
Inspection Criteria
- Leak detection/seal integrity test of entire package
- Test sensitivity down to 10 microns
